What Is The Point of Goat Yoga

My guess is everyone looking at this article know what Yoga is right?  But lately the question is what in the world is goat yoga? And what is the point of goat yoga?  I always thought the point of yoga was to get a good workout and stretch and calm your mind.

I was curious myself so I decided to do some good ol fashion research to get to the bottom of the whole Goat Yoga phenomenon.

How can this even be possible with a bunch of goats running around while trying to reach inner peace.

What is the Purpose of Goat Yoga

Goat yoga is one of the latest workout trends that involves doing yoga with and while in the company of baby goats.  The goats weigh about 15 pounds and will walk on your back during certain yoga poses. The table top and downward dog provides the perfect opportunity for these little guys and girls to hop on up.

Goat yoga although somewhat if a gimmick can bring some nice benefits.  One being a little back massage during your different poses.

Another benefit being of the therapeutic animal therapy kind.  Research has been done that shows that having a pet provides many therapeutic benefits.  And although these goats are not your pet they can provide similar de stressing results. Just being around animals can help reduce stress.

So you are getting double the stress relief – yoga and animal therapy all in one.

Yoga is such a great workout for all ages and provides so many benefits to young and old and can help prevent sports injuries and plain ol day to day injuries.

Yoga increases flexibility, balance, strength, muscle toning, cardiovascular, increased metabolism, burns calories, can help with weight loss, helps promote good posture and the list goes on and on.

Now add a goat or two to provide additional healthy therapeutic benefits you can’t go wrong.

Where Did Goat Yoga Start / Originate?

Finding where goat yoga started is not completely clear but it does look like one of the first places to have it was on a farm in Oregon.

Who Invented Goat Yoga?

The person it seems who started this is named Laney Morse who at the time was 45 back in August of 2016 living in Willamette Valley Oregon.

She already had 10 goats at the time and came up with the idea during a hard time in her life and came up with the idea of Goat Happy Hour.  Where people would come over and play with the animals and help them forget about their stress in their regular day.

During one of those events a yoga instructor asked if she would be interested in incorporating yoga into her yoga happy hours.  Her response was that the goats would probably walk on the people doing yoga – and the response was – Great!

And thus it was born.

It grew in popularity with celebrities performing goat yoga and taking selfies and posting on different social media platforms

Some related questions to Goat Yoga

Are the Goats potty trained?  Or will they pee and poop during the class?

The answer to this is most likely that they are not trained and there is always a chance you end up with some sort of goat waste on you or your yoga mat.

Do the goats hurt you when they jump on you?  The goats are supposed to be small and around 15 pounds.  So they shouldn’t hurt you. They act somewhat like a weight workout in a way.  But if you bruise easily or are injury prone you might want to skip it.

How does the class work?  Generally there will be a group of Yoga students and a group of goats in a contained area.  You will do yoga lead by an instructor like regular yoga while goats roam around the area and mingle with the yoga students.

How Much Does Goat Yoga Cost

The price will vary on location to location.  But based on the original creator of goat yoga Morse’s holds classes on her Oregon farm and charges about $30 per one hour session.  This is about double the price of a regular yoga class in the general area.

The best way to find out in your area would be to pull up your phone and type in goat yoga or goat yoga near me.
